I posted a list of things on Facebook of items we needed for the girls, in hopes that people might have some things they were looking to get rid of anyway. We had an outpouring of responses and so many people added in their one or two things and together it all added up to everything we needed.
A friend from my PEP group bought the girls brand new car seats. Another one waited to see what I still needed from the list and days before their arrival went to Kmart to finish off the list.
A friend from college saw my request on Facebook for some supplies we needed and she sent a $50 check to do with as we needed. (It’s going towards Kayle’s preschool)
A friend from church showed up at my door the first weekend we had the girls and gave me a card with a spa gift certificate for me.
A friend from my PEP group has taken charge of trying to help get Kayle in preschool full-time to help me survive the summer. She talked with the director and got her to agree to let Kayle go on a 50% scholarship, even without the grant money being confirmed. So for $450/month, Kayle will be able to go to school from 8-5 Mon-Fri. (Likely only June and July as Kayle’s dad may be granted custody in July) This same friend has taken charge of trying to help collect donations to cover that cost for us. She called Wednesday to tell me she already had collected enough to add Wednesdays, so starting next week, Kayle can go Monday, Wednesday and Friday!
A friend who is going through her own consuming life challenges has offered to help take the girls one morning a week to help give me a break.MANY friends from church have showed up Monday, Wednesday and Fridays to drop off “dinner for 6” at our door step.
A friend and neighbor has been taking Kayle for me each Tuesday morning so I can still work in Bryan’s classroom.
Many friends are checking in regularly to offer help, to see how I am doing and to lend an ear when I feel ready to explode.
Each week a different neighbor has picked up the kids to help me have moments alone or taken a combo of the kids to give me some solo time with my own.
Friends are taking my kids for extra play time, especially making sure Bryan has some boy time.
We were not created to live alone. God designed us to be in community with each other. I love witnessing the way that works and we are so blessed to have so many friends that love us so well.
